John the Baptist

By voxverum | May 28, 2008

John the Baptist came about and he proclaimed the great and terrible day of the Lord.

Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD.

Malachi 4:5

John’s very existence was a sign from God. That sign meant that the the great and terrible day was coming. So his life was a proclamation, a sign, and a prophecy for what was coming. John prophesied with his mouth and actions. He wasn’t always overt with blistering words like he spoke to the Pharisees either.

Something that the Holy Spirit revealed to me was that John prophesied with his diet. I thought it was unique that he ate honey and locusts. I have to admit, I think, and thought it was cool (and I am genuinely looking for a stable supply of locusts, so if you know where I can get some, please email me. I’m not joking). But aside from being cool there was something there that kept on dancing. It was like a shadow in a dark room; I knew it was there, but I just needed light from the proper perspective to see what it was.

So after praying about it, I saw what it was. John came to prophesy the Great and Terrible day of the Lord, and he was doing just that. The wild honey represented the Great day, as in “the land of milk and honey” and the locusts represented the Terrible day, as in the locusts that plagued Egypt.

Talk about a man understanding how to prophesy! I am not sure if the fact that the honey is “wild honey” has anything of implicating what type of Great day there is, but it might deal with entering into a land of milk and honey that hasn’t been domesticated yet (think: new heaven, new earth).
